Now Showing: Janise MOrrison: March 2018 - April 2108
Janise was born in San Diego, California and moved to Seattle, Washington in 2012. She studied art history and film at UCSD where she discovered her fascination with plant medicine and native american art history. A starchild at heart, she often depicts images from her dreams and meditations. With a background in education and a love for plants she made her way to OZ. as a budtender. Last summer she was in two car accidents that changed the direction of her life and how her brain would function. She chose a holistic approach to recovery and attributes that to her previous knowledge endowed by her college professors. Now she is on a path to discover how she can heal her body through alternative forms of medicine. With a significant injury in her right arm, she has paused her practice as an illustrator and allowed the pain to drive her direction as an artist. Dance has become a way to move through the physical injury while connecting the mind to the body. Moments of dysfunction and loss serve as opportunities to create self determined art. In her spare time she is researching herbology, sound healing, wildcrafting, and somatic movement therapy. The long road of recovery has influenced her vision for creating online content that can share her healing journey with the world. She is currently doing an artist residency in Seattle and dancing at Velocity.
