Current Show :: Jake Kopitzke, September 2019 - November 2019
Jake began woodburning four years ago at his home in the heart of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. He has always taken a non-traditional approach to the craft, being entirely self-taught. Jake uses only a single tip, which he makes himself, for all of his woodburning. He adds color to a typically colorless artform by using hand mixed dyes and a dying technique known as wooden watercolor. Many of the pieces on display in the shop will also glow in the dark once charged by the sun. No black light needed!
Jake's style is characterized by expansive areas of bottomless blacks, color fades, and gradients reminiscent of tie dye, visionary geometry, and the musician's that inspire him.
During the summers, you can likely find Jake on Shakedown Streets across the country. A lover of the outdoors as much as live music, Jake and his loyal dog, Turk, are out alone in the woods together as much as they can be.
